Special Pricing for Advanced Payment

For our patients who do not have insurance that will cover bariatric surgery, we have developed cash price packages.

LAP-BAND/REALIZE Band: This includes hospital stay, the adjustable gastric band, anesthesia, and surgeon fees. It also includes routine followup visits with the Nurse Practitioner in our office for the first year. This is an approximate cost. Expenses may vary for individual patients depending on medical conditions and patient needs. This cost does not include expenses incurred for complications or extended stay in the hospital.

• A pre-operative psychological evaluation is required for all bariatric surgery patients. A fee for this is not included.

• Individual patients may require other diagnostic testing or specialist consultations before and/or after surgery that would not be included in these totals. For example a sleep study, special procedures, or cardiologist consultation could be additional costs incurred before, during, or after the hospital stay.

• Routine follow-up labwork for nutritional assessment is not included, but can be arranged to be ordered by the patient's primary care physician. These bloodwork evaluations are a requirement for all post-operative bariatric surgery patients.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass...$19,100: This includes hospital stay, anesthesia, and surgeon fees. Duodenal Switch...$30,100: The Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD/DS) is an operation that is approved by the American Society of Metabolic Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) for morbidly obese patients, but it is not widely done in the United States. We are one of the few programs nationally who perform this procedure using a laparoscopic approach.

As opposed to the previous two operations, patients lose weight after this operation primarily because of malabsorption of calories, rather than restriction of caloric intake. A large segment of the intestines is bypassed during this operation so that only a fraction of the food ingested comes in contact with digestive enzymes and thus only a portion of the calories are used by the body. The size of the stomach is reduced, but most people can eat a normal meal after recovery from surgery.

Multiple studies show this is an excellent operation for achieving and maintaining a long-term weight loss (~90% excess weight loss at 5 years) with minimal complications. The complication rate is slightly higher than with the previous operations as is the hospital stay (3-5 days). Because of the malabsorptive component, it is essential that patients maintain their protein and vitamin intake and are attentive to the scheduled follow up program.
