Weight Loss Surgery Cost for Louisiana Patients

For our patients who do not have bariatric surgery insurance, The Surgical Specialists of Louisiana have developed weight loss surgery cash price packages.

LAP-BAND® System and REALIZE™ Band

Southeast Division $13,600-$19,500/Southwest Division $13,655
This includes hospital stay, the adjustable gastric band, anesthesia, and surgeon fees. It also includes routine follow-up visits with the Nurse Practitioner in our office for the first year. This is an approximate cost. Expenses may vary for individual patients depending on medical conditions and patient needs. This cost does not include expenses incurred for complications or extended stay in the hospital.

• A pre-operative psychological evaluation is required for all bariatric surgery patients. A fee for this is not included.
• Individual patients may require other diagnostic testing or specialist consultations before and/or after surgery that would not be included in these totals. For example a sleep study, special procedures, or cardiologist consultation could be additional costs incurred before, during, or after the hospital stay.
• Routine follow-up lab work for nutritional assessment is not included, but can be arranged to be ordered by the patient's primary care physician. These bloodwork evaluations are a requirement for all post-operative bariatric surgery patients.
• The hospital fee covers a 23 hour stay and may or may not cover complications.

Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass

This includes hospital stay, anesthesia, and laparoscopic gastric bypass procedure surgeon fees. It also includes routine follow up visits with the Nurse Practitioner in our office for the first year. This is an approximate cost. *This includes up to 3 hours of anesthesia. Additional anesthesia hours will be billed directly to the patient.

Gastric Sleeve

Bariatric Surgery Cash Pricing Program with Extended Complication Coverage

All surgeries have benefits and risks associated with them. Although statistically unlikely, these risks can lead to surgical complications which can result in the need for supplementary medical care for patients.

The physicians with Surgical Specialists of Louisiana (SSL) are acutely aware that any complication can prove to be too much of a financial burden for the average cash-pay patient. In an effort to lighten the worrisome burden of the cost of complications, the Surgical Specialists of Louisiana has partnered with Southern Surgical Hospital to develop a Cash Pay Program that includes most of the cost of treating complications that may occur during or for the first 12 months following weight loss surgery.

All patients interested in the Cash Pay Program will be evaluated by an SSL surgeon. To determine the cost of surgery, each patient will be evaluated by criteria based on age, BMI, and health history. Once a patient has been established as a Cash Pay Program participant, they will be entitled to receive the SSL Complication Coverage Feature at no additional charge.

The Complication Coverage Feature with the Surgical Specialists of Louisiana has certain criteria that must be met to ensure and maintain feature coverage:

• Surgical procedure must be performed at Southern Surgical Hospital located in Slidell, Louisiana
• Subsequent care and/or services ARE NOT covered at any hospital, institution or technical services provider other than Southern Surgical Hospital
• This feature only covers physician charges for members of Surgical Specialists of Louisiana and does not cover non-SSL physician consulting fees
• This feature is not all inclusive and is not an insurance policy or a warranty/guarantee
• The coverage feature does not cover complications that are attributable to the patients failure to comply with post-surgery discharge instructions
• In the event that a patient might need to be re-admitted, there is a flat re-admission fee of $200 for each post surgical re-admission.
